Producer
Barrett has produced or co-produced over 45 full length albums that span multiple genres including rock, blues, jazz, world fusion, traditional indigenous music, and entire film soundtracks. His work as a producer goes as far back as the mid 1990s, when he began co-producing his own band’s albums, working with several veteran producers. Those decades spent in the studios of Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York, as well as his studies in ethnomusicology and linguistics, have given him a deep level of experience in album making in some of the most prestigious studios in the world, as well field work in places as remote as the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, the Alaskan Arctic, and various projects across 6 continents
His production work has been for both major and independent labels with artists that include Hector Tellez Jr., Ayron Jones, Nando Reis, Cedell Davis, Buffalo Summer, Walking Papers, Mad Season, Screaming Trees, Tuatara, and many other albums that can be found on the biography/discography page.
Before, during, and after he earned his master’s degree in ethnomusicology and linguistics, Barrett did musical projects in Senegal and Ghana, Belize and Cuba, Brazil and Peru, the Palestinian West Bank, Bali Indonesia, the Mississippi Delta, and the Alaskan Arctic. Many of those recordings were for traditional and indigenous people who invited Barrett to produce albums of their music and storytelling. A few of those traditional albums can be found below.
