BARRETT MARTIN IS WRITING A COLUMN FOR THE HUFFINGTON POST

Musician and Sunyata Records founder Barrett Martin is now writing a column for The Huffington Post, focusing on music, politics, and culture in the United States and abroad. You can read his first essays here at The Huffington Post.

 

THE DEBUT ALBUM FROM WALKING PAPERS NOW AVAILABLE AS CD OR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

Walking Papers is a Seattle based Hard Blues Rock band featuring Jeff Angell, Barrett Martin, Duff McKagan, and Ben Anderson. Their debut album is a mixture of Blues, Americana, and Classic Rock. The album is now available on the iTunes link here, and at your local record store.

 

THE FINAL SCREAMING TREES ALBUM "LAST WORDS" NOW AVAILABLE ON CD OR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

Between the winter and summer months of 1998-99, Seattle band Screaming Trees recorded their last batch of songs before disbanding in June of 2000. Those final sessions, produced by Trees drummer Barrett Martin, feature guest appearances by REM's Peter Buck and QOTSA/Trees guitarist Josh Homme. The album was recently mixed by the band's longtime friend, Jack Endino, and was released on Barrett's label, Sunyata Records. The album can be heard in full streaming audio by clinking on the Sunyata Records link. THE 5th ALBUM FROM THE BARRETT MARTIN GROUP "ARTIFACT" NOW AVAILABLE ON CD OR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

This is the 5th and newest album from the BMG titled, "Artifact", and features a septet of Seattle's finest jazz musicians. The new album also features the Hindustani vocalist Mehnaz Hoosein on 4 of the songs, adding an Eastern musical influence to the world-infused jazz group. The entire album is now streaming on the Sunyata Records page, where the digipak CD and digital download are now available.

 

TAKING PUNK TO THE MASSESS

The music exhibit "Taking Punk To The Masses", of which Barrett Martin is one of the narrators, has officially opened in Seattle at the EMP Museum and there is even a book with a DVD that tells the story directly with the words of America's first wave of punk, alternative, and grunge musicians. ZENGA AND THE ART OF PERCUSSION WINS AN EMMY

The PBS short documentary about Barrett's drumming and Zen painting titled, "Zenga And The Art Of Percussion", has won a 2009 Emmy in the New Media Arts category. Produced by director Deborah Wakshull, the short clip can be viewed here.
